Bob Arter

Bob died this Saturday, and I offer mine and Night Train's condolences to his family. I knew him a little better than most of my online acquaintances so there's a Bob-sized hole in my writing life, and I'm sad. He appeared in Issue IV of the journal, convinced to submit by former managing editor Sue Henderson, who brought so many great writers to NT during her tenure. Bob's stories are quirky little gems that deserved a wider audience than the small-but-enthusiastic following he had during his time here. The Spaceman is a good example of his work, and you can easily Google to find more gems, and I encourage you to do so. In the meantime, I'm going to go back to things he said to me over the ten years I knew him, and I'm going to remember what an example he set for writers: he always produced wordage, worked hard at editing, and did it all with a ribald sense of humor. I'm going to miss him.

I'll miss him awfully. He was solid gold, not only his writing, but his huge heart.

How terribly sad. He was so generous and THERE, so attuned, and thoughtful.
