Julia Bernd lives in San Francisco and is employed as a peace activist, but likes to think of herself as a perfectly normal Midwesterner. She currently edits for Night Train and was formerly at NFG Magazine. (Reading fiction and being critical are two of her favorite things, so getting to do both and be thanked for it seems pretty much ideal. After all, isn't that what everyone wants?) She gardens in her spare time because when your workday goal is world peace, a few months to grow a tomato seems like immediate gratification. She managed to finagle an MA in linguistics before having a falling-out with the concept of academia, and is the only Night Train staffer to have been published in the Proceedings of the Austronesian Formal Linguistics Association.
